Good Vibrations

Anderson Cooper on CNN said the other night he watched the presidential debate over again with the sound off. That way he could watch the two candidates and take in their body language, facial expressions and their energy. It is clear to me that I did not need to hear any of the actual spoken words to actually feel what I already know.

Years ago I was driving up 90/94 from the city back up North and watched this car zig-zagging in and out of traffic. I instinctively knew that I did not want to be anywhere near that car. I sensed that whoever was driving that car was not taking into account any of the precious lives surrounding him/her/they.

You can feel it when you walk into a room (when we used to walk into crowded rooms). There is a distinct sense of attraction or repulsion to certain people's energies. We are all made out of energy so it makes sense that the vibratory nature of energies would allow us to experience this phenomenon. It is palpable on the phone, on a zoom call, or live on TV Mr. President.

How do we define someone's energy? It is you projecting everything that is stored inside of your subconscious mind out into the world through your words, voice, tone, and body language. The sum of your thoughts, feelings, and actions which create external reactions from others. Empathy manifests itself as energy and some people empathize more than others. That allows them to pick up on “energies” more frequently and react more strongly to them. These people are usually more sensitive and self aware. They form patterns and connections and can feel how others are feeling without having to be told. It could also be physical reaction to bright eyes, healthy skin, our physical posture. Self refection is helpful to simply notice. What are you giving off?

It is excruciatingly difficult to deal with negative people—people who bring your mood down with their pessimism, anxiety, and general sense of distrust. Being told over and over again that you are wrong or "that will never work" takes a toll. The consistent exposure to negativity can lead to eroding our own sense of peace and happiness. I am craving decency, for people to be nice. I know that sounds saccharine and maybe naive. We cannot let the negativity eat away at us allowing us to become indifferent, uncaring, distrustful, or mean.

There are many things I love about yoga, but it can provide you with some valuable feedback about your own energy AND allow you to work on it as well. Physically it allows us to notice our posture, our energy level, how we hold ourselves, and how we can move efficiently as humans in our own bodies. But the subtle ways that yoga works can provide us information on our level of patience, our own kindness, and humility.

In order to provide some good vibrations for the upcoming weeks, I invite you to the practice below. I am adding a FREE community class on Tuesday, November 3rd from 2-3p cst. Please join me AFTER you have voted to stay calm and to provide one another with a positive charge.
