Kind and Generous

I am leaving on June 1st for Africa. I have never traveled there before, and I cannot believe I am leading a yoga retreat to Tanzania....it is a real pinch me moment. As I put together this retreat, which includes a week of solo travel for me prior to the retreat, I was only nervous about one night, the first night there. The logistics of traveling to Tanzania and then on to Zanzibar are of course complicated. I tried not to worry too much about that first night. When I said the whole itinerary out loud to the Hubs, he went back to that arrival night and was like "um, that is nuts."

THE NEXT DAY I got an email from the wife of our guide. She noticed the travel times and logistics of my arrival and wrote to me to say she made an alternative plan. No stress, a couple of changes, she took care of it all. I wrote back to say how relieved I am and she replied only this:

"You are coming to a country with very kind and friendly people - you will be fine."

I am taking this on as my motto for every class I teach, every space I hold, every dinner table I sit at, every coffee date I make. I want people to know that they will be met with kindness and a generosity of spirit. If you feel THAT from the moment of arrival, imagine how much more relaxed you can be and ultimately make the most of whatever encounter we have.

I will be gone June 1 - June 18th and you can follow along on the good ol' instagram and see how that first bit shakes out! Deep bow to the students who said yes and are coming with me. I have more opportunities to travel below, Italy this Fall and Morocco next Spring.

Whether or not I see you in class, in Whole Foods, or on a retreat know that you will be met with kindness and a generosity of spirit.

XO

JK
